Happy New Year, friends! I'm sharing a list of the best keto foods I found in 2019, which includes a roundup of my favorite products and recipes that are keto-friendly. It seems appropriate today because a new year always means REFLECTION, right?
And wow, what a year. A year full of highs and lows and new experiences. Our first full year in Arizona after moving from Alaska. My first year since leaving a PR career and learning how to be a stay-at-home-mom. The beginning of Stem + Spoon. Ian's first year of stable brain scans, plus a year off from chemo. Our son Maverick entered kindergarten. Our three-year-old daughter Posey is (FINALLY) potty-trained and as insignificant as that sounds, we've been working on this for several months and it's a huge deal to me so it made the list. 🙂
I asked Maverick what his favorite things about 2019 were and his little five-year-old brain rattled off this:
- When dad gave me the harmonica ("hanukkah" was his exact pronunciation).
- When we bought our van and I got that icky gumball. 🙂
- Christmas when I opened all my presents.
- Posey's birthday party when her Minnie Mouse balloons floated away.
- Starting kindergarten and meeting my best friend (sweet).
I love conversations with him at his age. They're funny and surprising and even eye-opening. Our conversation inspired this post, a roundup of the best keto foods I discovered in 2019, including my favorite (and most-used) keto products and keto recipes. I plan to write a list of keto food essentials/pantry staples soon which will be more comprehensive, but this little list feels right at the moment.
As I look back at 2019, for me, a TON of time was spent in the kitchen, learning and cooking and baking and discovering that it's still entirely possible to carve your own path- one you love- regardless of (or thanks to?) situational factors. So, cheers to 2020, whatever lies ahead. I am certain it will include more challenges, more joy, more lessons learned. And in between, more keto cooking and baking!
Best Keto Foods: A Roundup of my Favorites
A short list of the best keto foods, including products and recipes, I discovered in 2019. From my favorite sugar replacement to an amazing keto bread find, and fun, tasty recipes in between!
If you've made any of my recipes, you're likely very aware of my love for this monkfruit/erythritol sweetener blend. You can sub it for sugar 1:1, it doesn't have the same aftertaste as many keto-friendly sweeteners, and it's easy to find (Amazon, local grocery stores and even Costco!). This monkfruit sweetener is my #1 best keto food discovery by far!
This keto-friendly bread is high-protein and low-carb with only 2 grams net carbs per slice. I discovered Chompie's is local to Arizona and can find their low-carb bread at grocery stores like Sprouts. Even better, Chompies has an online store which includes the option for a bread subscription as well as other low-carb products.
Low-carb granola is certainly on my list of best keto foods of the year! I may be late to the no-grain granola train, but this was a big food discovery for me. Having a batch of this keto cereal on hand makes breakfasts quick, easy and a no-brainer (and I seem to struggle the most with creative keto breakfasts). FYI- you can easily change up the recipe by leaving out the pumpkin and it works just fine.
I love this how-to by Minimalist Baker for homemade coconut yogurt! It's keto-friendly, easy to modify for different flavors/sweetness, and a great way to get probiotics! I make this one over and over and over again.
Savor the Best did this thorough test of the 6 ways to make hard-boiled eggs and I couldn't love it more! Do you know you can make them in the oven? And in the Instant Pot? I didn't even know there are six different methods. Plus, they included certain tips and tricks to get the perfect, easy-peel hard-boiled egg. It's really an egg-cellent guide.
I've been a big fan of Lily's products since we began keto, but in the past year, I really started baking a lot more with their semi-sweet chocolate baking chips. They're botanically sweetened with stevia extract and only include a handful of ingredients. My kids love them (and sneak them), so you know they taste like the real deal.
you might also love...
- This low-carb shakshuka recipe- an easy and healthy keto breakfast (or whenever) meal.
- This autumn kale salad with pumpkin vinaigrette because it's sweet and savory and still pumpkin season, if you ask me.
- Pumpkin almond flour muffins, which are incredibly easy and even includes a video!

It’s been a big and fulfilling year. Potty training really is a big deal and totally deserves to make it on the list ❤️
