ingredients for keto stir fry
I love that this dish combines crisp veggies, juicy beef with tender chicken- it's one of the things that makes this meal.
You can totally substitute for all chicken or all beef if you'd like, but the meaty combination creates a high-protein and low-carb stir fry that's so good and resembles take out!
You will need these simple ingredients:
- tamari soy sauce or coconut aminos- Tamari is a dark soy sauce that is also gluten-free. If you prefer coconut aminos, substitute an equal amount.
- toasted sesame oil- For a delicious sesame flavor.
- fresh garlic and ginger- Fresh ginger and garlic clove are a must! Mince each really well.
- golden monkfruit sweetener- This adds a light sweetness to the keto stir fry sauce with a flavor that resembles brown sugar. See notes for alternative sweetener options.
- sriracha- It's optional! Red chili flakes will also add a little heat.
- xanthan gum- This thickens the sauce and creates a stickier sauce to coat stir fry ingredients.
- avocado oil- For cooking the steak.
- flank steak or skirt steak- Cut the beef into thin slices.
- boneless chicken thighs- Cut into bite-sized cubes.
- stir fry veggies- Baby bella (cremini) mushrooms, red bell pepper, green beans, green onion and bok choy.
the process

Here's a quick look at the basic steps involved, but don't forget to scroll to the bottom of the page to view the recipe card.
Combine the stir fry sauce ingredients in a small bowl and set it aside.
Place the sliced steak in a shallow bowl and pour 2-3 tablespoons of the sauce on the steak and set it aside to marinate.
Heat a large skillet over high heat, add oil, then add the chicken to the hot pan, cooking for a few minutes. Add the beef and cook until the chicken pieces are done. Transfer the stir fry meat to a bowl.
Add the veggies to the stir fry pan and cook over medium-high heat, just a few minutes.
Add the meat back into the pan and pour in the stir fry sauce, mixing well so the sauce coats the stir fry.
Since the bok choy and green onions will only take a couple of minutes to cook, add them after the other veggies have cooked for a few minutes.
Serve the stir fry immediately. You can top it with sesame seeds or red pepper flakes, but it's not necessary.
tips for the best low-carb stir fry
- Sesame oil has a high smoke point so you can sauté the steak and chicken in it for extra flavor. Other avocado oil substitutions include olive oil and ghee.
- About the cut of beef: This chicken and steak stir fry recipe works best with flank steak or skirt steak since both cuts are tender, marinate well and the thin slices cook quickly over high heat. If you'd like to substitute with top sirloin steak or ribeye, be sure to slice it super thin.
- Add salt and black pepper to taste after the stir fry is done cooking.
- Other sweeteners that will work in this keto stir fry recipe include: allulose, liquid monk fruit and stevia drops. If using liquid sweetener, start out with just a few drops and adjust to taste. Agave is another option but will increase the amount of sugar in the dish.
- Store leftovers in an air-tight container for up to five days.
frequently asked questions
Yes, but make sure to give the chicken pieces a bit of a head-start since they will need to cook longer. The first step in this low-carb stir fry recipe is to cook the chicken for a few minutes. Add the marinated steak pieces next.
I like using flank steak or skirt steak since they slice thin and cook quickly! Other options include ribeye, sirloin or any other tender cut. I've found that while pre-cut, pre-packaged steak that's labeled "beef for stir fry" are more economical cuts, they will usually be tougher.
