Hi and welcome to Stem and Spoon, a space where I share the low-carb recipes I'm cooking, baking and indulging in. I'm wife to a really good man who keeps me laughing (Ian), mama to two sweet kiddos who are always underfoot in the kitchen (Maverick and Posey), and a former journalist-turned-PR-pro-turned-blogger who swears baking is therapy.
I created Stem and Spoon to share exciting, easy and approachable recipes that are low-carb, keto-friendly, and made with nutritious, whole foods. My husband Ian follows a ketogenic diet, and I mainly eat low-carb. The recipes you'll find here are keto-friendly, gluten-free, refined sugar-free and mostly dairy-free (or dairy optional).

why low-carb?
Ian is the reason behind Stem and Spoon (and my biggest supporter/enthusiastic taste tester). At the age of 30, he was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an incurable, terminal brain cancer. The days, weeks, and months that followed were a blur of adapting to our new normal, including a new diet. We quickly learned the ketogenic diet has been used for decades to treat various neurological conditions and that there could be a potential benefit. Since his diagnosis in 2017, Ian has successfully followed a keto diet (alongside a mix of both conventional and alternative treatments managed by his medical doctors). His favorite foods are this Basque cheesecake, pot roast with gravy, and a keto poke bowl.
I develop, test, photograph and write each recipe on Stem and Spoon, juggling time in the kitchen between freelance work and #momlife. My intention is to make low-carb and keto recipes that are tasty and simple, less focused on dieting and counting carbs, and more about good foods and nourishment. Life is busy. Kids are picky. And we all need the occasional sweet treat. I hope you can find inspiration here to help you along the way! (My faves are this keto chili, chicken shawarma plate, and carrot cake. Our kids love these cookie pops and keto almond joys.)
