This easy Cottage Cheese Buffalo Chicken Dip is high in protein, low in carbs, and will have everyone hovering over the appetizer table at your next party or game day gathering. This is a healthier version of the classic recipe, and the blended cottage cheese sustains that creamy texture this delicious dip is known for.

high protein buffalo chicken dip
The best thing about game day is the wonderful spread of appetizers. My Crispy Keto Chicken Wings (with Garlic Parmesan Wing Sauce), Keto Bacon-Wrapped Jalapeno Poppers, and Keto Spinach Dip are just a few favorites.
But really, we all know what everyone's looking forward to the most: the classic buffalo chicken dip.
This healthy buffalo chicken dip recipe replaces the traditional amount of cream cheese with cottage cheese for a lightened-up version. It ups the protein while keeping the dip creamy and flavorful.
My version has a mild to medium spiciness, which will depend on the type of buffalo sauce used. I like to use Primal Kitchen or Noble Made buffalo sauce since they don't contain added sugars and have a much healthier ingredient list.
why this recipe works
Traditional buffalo chicken dip recipes usually call for large amounts of cream cheese, sour cream or mayonnaise and store-bought ranch dressing mix.
While these ingredients make for a tasty dip, they also add a lot of unnecessary and non-ideal ingredients if you're keeping an eye on your macros and trying to maintain a lifestyle that is focused on real foods.
I know cottage cheese isn't everyone's favorite food, but when blended with the buffalo sauce and other ingredients, it becomes undetectable.
It's full of protein and nutrients, but is sneaky in the sense that no one will even know.
However, cottage isn't doing all the work here. We add a little cream cheese and two kinds of shredded cheese (mozzarella and parmesan) to make an extra cheesy, creamy dip.
And to replace the ranch dressing seasoning packet, all you need are a great mix of herbs and spices that bring it all together.
Got leftover chicken? Perfect. Use it in this dip! If not, quickly cook up a couple of chicken thighs or a chicken breast and shred it. The canned version works too, but I like to use fresh meat for this recipe.
Serve it with celery and carrot sticks or your favorite low-carb chips for a delicious game-day snack.
My cottage cheese buffalo chicken dip is:

- A good source of protein, making it a healthy appetizer.

- Keto, low-carb, and gluten-free, so it's suitable for a variety of dietary needs.
the ingredients
Here's a look at the simple ingredients you'll need:
- Cottage cheese. Make sure it's the full-fat variety for best results.
- Buffalo sauce. I like Primal Kitchen or Noble Made hot sauce, but you can use your own favorite brand.
- Cream cheese. Make sure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature before mixing.
- Herbs & spices. I use a mix of garlic powder, onion powder, fine sea salt, dried dill, and dried chives to add that extra flavor.
- Green onions. Chopped green onions add a mild onion flavor and a pop of color to the dip.
- Pre-cooked chicken. Rotisserie chicken or pre-cooked shredded chicken.
- Cheese. A combination of grated mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan or cheddar cheese adds a delicious cheesy touch to this cottage cheese dip.

tips for the best results
- Chicken : If you don’t have any cooked, you can cook two large chicken thighs in a pan over medium heat for 6-8 minutes per side. Let them cool for a few minutes before chopping them.
- Cream cheese: Make sure to allow for time for the cream cheese to come to room temperature. This way it will easily blend into the rest of the ingredients. Cold cream cheese will leave you with a lumpy dip!
- Baking dish sizes: You can use any medium-sized baking dish, including an 8x8, a loaf pan, or a round cake pan. Make sure to grease the dish before adding the dip to prevent it from sticking.

If you have leftover buffalo chicken dip, you can store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to five days.

- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ¼-½ teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1-½ teaspoons dried chives
- 1 teaspoon dried dill
- ½ cup chopped scallions

- ¾ cup grated mozzarella cheese, divided
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan or cheddar
- Celery, cucumber, broccoli, carrots or low-carb crackers for serving
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease an 8x8 baking dish with a little avocado oil and set aside.
- Add the cottage cheese and buffalo sauce to a high-powered blender or food processor. Blend/process until the cottage cheese is smooth.
- Transfer the mixture to a large mixing bowl. Add the softened cream cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, dried chives, dill and scallions. Use an electric mixer to combine.
- Stir in the chopped chicken and ½ cup of the grated mozzarella. Transfer the mixture to the baking dish, then top with the rest of the mozzarella and all of the Parmesan cheese.
- Bake the dip for 25-30 minutes or until heated through and the cheese on top melts.
- Remove and let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- This dip has a mild-medium heat level, depending on the brand of buffalo sauce used. For a spicier dip, top the dip with grated Pepper Jack cheese instead of Parmesan. You can also stir in 1-2 tablespoons of chopped jalapeños into the dip mixture, or use an extra spicy buffalo sauce.
- You can use any medium sized baking dish, including an 8x8, a loaf pan, or a round cake pan.
- Rotisserie or pre-cooked shredded chicken is ideal. If you don’t have any cooked, you can cook 2 large chicken thighs in a pan over medium heat for 6-8 minutes per side. Let them cool for a few minutes before chopping them.
